Valve Talks Counter-Strike 2 Potential Or The Next Orange Box 2

The topic of a full Counter-Strike sequel has been cautiously broached by Valve during a series of interviews with GameTrailers TV. ''We will never abandon Counter-Strike,'' asserted Valve director of marketing Doug Lombardi, who went on to explain why the game hasn't received a major update since the release of Counter-Strike Source in 2004. ''It's a little bit unfair to compare Counter-Strike, I think, to your ****c game that's gonna have these sequels. It looks a little bit more like an MMO where it's constantly [being updated].'' Of course, even the most successful MMOs get sequels eventually, and it appears that Valve is at least tentatively working out the details of a Counter-Strike refresh. ''With Counter-Strike 2, there's a big question between, do we go start over from scratch and build this whole new game, do we do something that looks more like Team Fortress 2 that is rooted in the old game but has a ton of new stuff, or do we just sort of take everything that's new that we've released and put that out in a new box,'' remarked Lombardi. ''I think we're leaning more towards the two more radical places than just sort of rolling up the new box and reskinning the box and putting out all the new stuff.'' But will the game truly go the way of Team Fortress and end up in the new ''cartoon shooter'' genre? ''Oh I doubt that,'' Lombardi said, laughing. ''I just don't think that [Counter-Strike 2] would be a good fit [with Half-Life Episode 3],'' added Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, noting that the potential game would be a stand-alone product in his eyes. Newell closed with a dangerous challenge: ''But if I get 15,000 emails from customers in response to this interview telling me 'Of course it should be in [the next Orange Box],' then of course we'll pay attention to that.'' Sweet! Counterstrike 2, HL ep3, now all we need is portal 2 and we can have the next colored box!
So... should we all get Gabe Newell's address and start pestering him about Counter-Strike 2?
Interesting.
Such a hardcore game. Great stuff.
YES i think all of gamespot and friends should start sending him emails if we want the next VALVE BOX it would containCounter Strike 2Half Life 2 EP 3And Maybe A Team Fortress Up Grade Or Portal 2
lol, requesting spam of sorts, nice... Should be interesting to see where this goes.
I cannot imagine how long that next ''box'' would take to come out...
As much as I would like to see Counter-Strike 2 launch with Episode 3, wouldn't it make more sense for Valve to release the game once they make the successor to the Source Engine?

Yes. I'm down, who else wants to send mass emails to him?
*drools*

when is valve gonna stop being amazing
I don't want to see CS2 with the next Half Life. They need to take a lot of time to balance the game and not screw it up, and that would really delay Episode 3.
I just hope they don't mess anything up with CS...Source is great.. but the hitboxes can be off sometimes..I prefer CS:S but must admit the hitboxes are better in 1.6

That would be amazing! I think we all knew it was only a matter of time, since the counter strike series ahs done so well. I'm on a and off with CSS, but I'd gladly start it up again if I knew CS2 was coming, lol.

No. Counter-Strike in a TF2 format would be painfull. CS has always been about competition, and there is a reason it's been #1 online shooter since its release in 1999. If it ain't broke, dont fix it.All Valve needs to do is fix the game first, there are still a ton of issues that the community has to deal with. Glitched animations, hitboxes, map exploits, etc. That should take much higher priority than trying to re-invent the game.
