IGN Review on Dawn of War 2 ! + Problably the best phrase for a game in history!

Well i agree with everything that IGN said ...this is the best prhase in this review ...2 phrases to be more precise! (QUATE)''Relic has made a lot of bold decisions with Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, some of which are sure to turn off parts of the RTS hardcore base, the most obvious being the elimination of base building. Yet as players we can't continue to accept the same kinds of games, complain about stagnation, and then turn our backs when somebody does something different.'' %26 here is the link http://pc.ign.com/articles/954/954749p1.html ! It looks good; I've pre-ordered it. Of course, Empire will blow its intergalactic arse off.
Doe's not deserve 9 because they removed alot of the units and there is not much modding ability for the game, i don't see this game lasting long at all
just because a game has limited units or no mods doesnt make it a bad game. doom has limited weapons and no mods and its considered the best fps ever. and so is painkiller. and if u think thats too much of a stretch out there red alert 3 doesnt have much in terms of mods and its gameplay is rather umm away from the franchise. so technically it gets to fall in line with it.

Have you played it?
Well while I havn't played the game to comment on the 'best phrase in this context' but I disagree with the statement in general. change just for the sake of it is never is not enough , it should be implemented so that it's enjoyable (or atleast enjoyable by the majority of the people). A simple example would be spore, it did something new but it did most of it in a dull way making the game pretty unenjoyable for many. That said, I am happy it's doing things differently , it helps me have variety in RTS
If the multiplayer is as bad as the Beta then the single player needs to be REALLLLY good to justify a 9.

Doom has mods, not many but enough of them considering how advanced modding was at that time and stop saying Painkiller so much :P I'm one step from installing it again.

Anyway, it deserves the 9, but I personally don't like it that much, I'll probably get it when it goes down in price.

Most of the new good RTS have abandoned base building and resource gathering. for how long will rts games like Dawn of war 2 continue to get credits for nothing new? Its more unusual these days to get a GREAT rts that includes base-building and resource gathering than action-wannabe ''RTS'' games.

Sequals are sussposed to add new units not decrease them, and mods are a VERY important part of pc gaming, just look at hl2 for example.

This game will not be worth the 40 pound price tag, buy empire instead.

Company of Heroes adapted base building to an extent where it's not pivotal, since you can complete missions with the same units without building new ones if you're skilled enough. Did Relic brag about that then? No they didn't. So why do they brag about this now? They say that lack of base building is good because it focuses the action on a select few troops...but that's the complete opposite of what Dawn of War is about. Orks don't attack in squads of 2 or 4, they attack in packs of at least a dozen warriors, combined together to make a clan. Space Marines, no matter what chapter you are in, always have backup support when going on missions and don't just use one or two squads at a time.Relic have tripped over their own game lore in the aim of ''creating something new''. Doing a drag box rush of nearly 100 soldiers in the original was EPIC! Because that was the exact amount you needed to bring down one single squiggoth. Relic are being arrogant with the ''no-base building in singleplayer'' but are punishing us with: Lack of units, incredibly repetitive gameplay and complete lack of mods and that = zero value for money. To be fair, get Empire instead. Although the beta brainwashed me into liking it for a while, once I looked at it closely and realised just how off the mark Relic were...I started having serious doubts about it. I'm a hardcore fanatic of the 40k universe, but for $70...this game is overpriced and overrated.

Yeah thats where DLC comes in, I am looking forward to my pre-order arriving though that's for sure. I am not so happy about the Steam Activation though.
I am having a hard time remembering which rts released in the past year didn't have resource gathering and some form of base building.sins? nora3? nophelp me out here
as an rts fan you already know that last year wasnt one of the best years for rts games... the last highly praised rts was World in Conflict which didnt have any resource gathering or base building. i dont think you can include sins on the ''traditional rts games'' category. all i'm saying is that RTS games that do not focus on base building or resource gathering are nothing new these days.
World in Conflict is NOT an RTS, it's RTT. The singleplayer of DOW2 is also RTT.
ya thats true but I find the statement itself a bit contradictory considering non-base building RTSs have been around for a very long time. My first experience was with Warhammer: Dark Omen, then Force 21, Ground Control, World in Conflict, etc.I mean, you need to keep some components there, otherwise how would you distinguish between an RTS and an isometric action game?I am sure Dawn of War 2 is a great game, let me make that clear. But I dont think they should get points simply for doing away with the base building. As far as I am concerned the greatest innovation to the RTS genre was Homeworld; no base building, yet there was resource collection and unit building, plus a third dimension.
