Lot of depth but if u like games like FF then you might not like oblivion.
Oblivion is trash. Don't buy it under any circumstances. Get The Witcher.

i played oblivion and it bored me to death, to much walking riding and repition in quests. However the witcher got me hooked right out of the gates, its less open more focused, with a much better story. So it depends on what type of games you like.
Id recommend the witcher, real choice and consequence and itsstory driven - oblivion has a poor story and terrible level scaling which eliminates the challenge, some downright awful voice overs withpoor AI,you can however create your own character.
What depth? The Witcher rocks, simply put. It's a true PC RPG, not a lousy consolized game, and a true RPG overall. It beats the crap out of Oblivion at everything. Not to mention it's based on a cycle of fantasy books, bestsellers in Europe. And it's a lot different from the usual RPG, mainly because it's based on slavic mythology (the bestiary that is). You've got original monsters, items, settings. You have a true world - racism, violence, sex, and a crapload of irony towards the real world. The main character is plain awesome. The story is a delight. And you actually pay the consequences for your actions. It's awesome.
I'd recommend playing The Witcher if you're looking for a true RPG experience.I found Oblivion to be far from an RPG. More like an Action/Adventure with RPG Elements.
if you want a good rpg and good story get witcher. if you want to do random crap get oblivion
the witcher is better in every category but open endness
I own Oblivion but have played the demo of thw Witcher.I'll call it a draw.Oblivion is repetitive, but it's also got a huge ambitious game world and allows the player to play as he/she likes. It's the ultmiate free form RPG for this generation of gamers. Tons of mods/quests, it can suck you in and keep you there for a long time. The Witcher, on the other hand, is a more focused game with better character, a more involved storyline but is a bit more consrticted.Let me put it this way, if you're a true RPG fan (I'm not) You need to play both games. The $29.99 Price tag on oblivion doesn't hurt!
The Witcher.
I haven't played the witcher yet but if you like oblivion you should get mods for it. It can REALLY make it fun. The normal version of it kinda drew me in and wanting more and using different mods really completes the expierence because there are so many things to do after you get some good ones.
so far I think witcher is better, to break them up fairly basically I'll startOblivion - free roaming type sandbox, lots of armor, weapons, spells, wide open areas if you just want to go out and exploreWitcher - focused storyline, smaller areas, branching storyline, much more dialog and quest choices, story progresses through different areasOblivion is good if you want to walk around geting +5 sword and a shield with a bit more armor and doing some fairly boring quests.Withcer is good if you want a story focused game where you get to chose how certain trees branch away, and the changes it makes to your game later onWitcher has more interesting, and involving combatOblivion has many good mods that improve the gameWitcher has better artistic design and in some ways graphics, but oblivion is much larger so its probably moot.witcher has better musicoblivion has better english translation in general (although less dialogueOblivion has less frequent load times

I'd recommend Oblivion over The Witcher. The Oscuro Oblivion Overhaul Mod adds a ton of great content and the like to an all-ready filled game and can't really go wrong with Oblivion. There is a core difference between Oblivion and The Witcher. If you want open-ended gameplay without having to do quests, go with Oblivion. The Witcher is considerably more linear and scripted, despite what the developers say about the multiple paths the story can take. In Oblivion, you can take innumerable options.
The Witcher if you like RPGsOblivion if you like to kill things

Like Oblivion isn't scripted either! no matter what your choices are, it's pretty much the same thing - You can say and do whatever you want, but the outcome is always the same, the only difference is the rewards you get, while in the Witcher, the consequences of your actions are pretty huge and affect the story quite a bit. I haven't finished it yet (I'm on a vacation in Dubai and my dad's laptop has an onboard card that doesn't even have shader model 1.1, so I can't do much regarding gaming here.) so my view on that may change when I see the different endings, but hell, at least there ARE different endings in The Witcher, no matter what you do in Oblivion, the outcome is ALWAYS the same, even in shivering isles, sure a different character may die or crap like that, but overall, the character that lives will do the exact same thing that the other character that died would have done. I would give an example of choices in The Witcher but I don't want to spoil too much, but sometimes you can make a choice early on in the game, and it will affect the story about 5 hours later, and then you'll have to end up doing quests that you didn't need to, or vice versa.Oblivion may be HIGHLY moddable, but it still has obvious and huge flaw's that can be modified just a bit, but pretty much can't be taken out, except a few easy fixes. Yet for some reason people just like to ignore those annoying and painfully obvious flaws that make the game so trashy.Yet...it's so fun!!! Mainly cuz of the mods, but really, Oblivion sucks - but it's still fun to play.
