im fairly certain nothings been said about it
all we know is its in devlopmentUm...So...Has anyone heard anything about HL2, Episode 3?
I don't mind waiting, but would be nice to see some news from Valve. I think Episode 3 is supposed to be longer than HL2. So if I have to wait another year or two for it, thats fine with me.
How can it possibly take this long to come up with another episode using the same engine/graphics/guns as the first two? All they're basically doing is building some new levels
I was thinking about that, but I think there is a lot more to it. I believe that Episode 3 is an entirely new environment. Valve also wants to make the game as good as it can be. They are probably improving the graphics again to some degree, adding new weapons, enemies...And of course, making it longer. It takes a while to polish a game, and make sure you work out all of the bugs. Although I do not know anything about the process of creating a game, I'm sure there is a lot more to it than the obvious.
I agree with the logic, that Valve is likely to push the envelope on ep.3 it would be the best of the ep. games to do it (to secure as much sale as possibly)Thier silence is a mixed bag tho, either theyre VERY busy updating and maintaining thier games library, or theyre putting in alot of work, to make sure it is a kickass game.I gravitate towards the latter ^^ To be frank, its thier only chance to get people like me to buy any (or all) the episodes, which I diddnt due to the very good posibility that theyll be in one big pack.If it is indeed longer then HL2 I will be amazed (that game is quite long by todays standards), if it proves true then I will rejoice ^^
It will likely involve the Borealis and may take place in a snow environment.
I don;t think anything big has been revealed, just that it's coming. I'm psyched though, as I still haven't finished Episode 2... I'm going back through them all

They are releasing TF2 updates, and have made a new game (a great game I may add) in a relatively short period of time (Left4Dead). I would imagine that even while doing all of this, they are working on Episode 3. If all of their time had been devoted to it, it may have been out now, or maybe we might have just heard more about it. But I'm not complaining, TF2 is constantly renewing itself and is more and more fun to play with each new update, and Left4Dead is the only 4 player co-op game I've seen on the PC.
I heard Valve has the rights to it.
Valve are busy people. They support all their online games. They are constantly working on TF2 for example. Also remember than Ep 3 is just that, an episode so Valve will most likely try to bundle it with another game to make it more attractive to potential consumers. The candidates are a new game or a portal sequel most likely.
This is Valve we're talking about.
If it is longer than HL2 I will die of happiness. HL2 was so long for a shooter (which was great).I don't care how long it takes as long as Valve gives us something to hold on to i.e. release date, trailer, lots of concept art like the following:

I'd recommend finishing Episode 2 soon, it reveals a lot more about the story, and will probably give you some more insight into whats coming in the third one.Btw, that concept art looks great, maybe a boss fight that is just you vs. Combine with just a crowbar? Would be epic.
One more thing...Is it just me, or does Gordon look a lot like Dr. House in some pictures?
